Be prepared for extreme heat and drought
As we kick off the summer months, now is the time to ensure people in your community are prepared for extreme heat. Making a plan is the first step you can take to keep yourself and your loved ones safe during extreme heat. Staying hydrated, finding ways to keep your home cool, and checking in on your neighbours and the seniors in your life are just some of the things to include in your plan.

B.C. is taking bold action to make sure housing is more accessible and more affordable for people.
People in BC deserve a good place to call home. But for many, finding an affordable home is a challenge. That’s why we’re taking action to deliver more homes in BC. More than 42,000 new homes are open or underway in more than 100 communities in BC – with more on the way.
Help fill gaps in B.C. government services!
By taking the BC Demographic Survey, you will help make B.C. more equitable and inclusive. The information collected will help identify inequities in government services to ensure programs meet the needs of more people in British Columbia. It only takes 15 minutes.
More projects will support resilient communities
The second intake of the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) is open, and includes new eligibility for planning or feasibility projects related to workforce housing needs. Building resilient economies is part of the Province’s work through the StrongerBC Economic Plan to build a strong and sustainable economy through clean and inclusive growth. Rural and remote communities, First Nations and non-profits are encouraged to submit applications to fund projects that strengthen and diversify their economies.

Millions of BC residents will be getting some free money this week – Daily Hive
This week our BC NDP government is putting hundreds of extra dollars in people’s bank accounts by boosting the climate action tax credit. A single person can now receive as much as $447 per year, an increase of more than $250 from 2022, or more than double what they received last year. A family of four can now receive as much as $893.50, which is $390 more than last year. This is just one of the actions David Eby is taking to help people deal with the cost of living.
B.C. launches online booking system for booking appointments with pharmacists – CBC News
We’re making it easier and more convenient for people to access the health care they need. As of last week, people can book an appointment to see a pharmacist through a new provincial online booking system. On June 1st, pharmacists scope of practice was expanded to include prescriptions for 21 minor ailments, and as of June 27th, over 25,000 people have used pharmacists services for assessment.
Castlegar, Nelson among top three worst communities for killing black bears – Castlegar Source
Nelson and Castlegar have the dubious distinction of ranking the second and third (respectively) deadliest communities for black bears in B.C. The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals presented a report yesterday listing 2022’s eight deadliest communities in the province for black bears, Prince George being the community in first/worst place.
