RDKB — Bit of good news regarding wildfires in the region

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Emergency Operations Centre said there is a bit of good news regarding wildfires in the region after an evacuation alert for 25 addresses near the Lynch Creek Fire was rescinded as of 11:30 a.m. August 24.
The RDKB EOC said the Lynch Creek Fire is now fully contained and guarded, and classified as under control by the BC Wildfire Service.
In other news:
- 33 addresses remain on Evacuation Alert in the RDKB in near the Horns Mountain / Santa Rosa fire.
- Some precipitation is forecast for the northern and eastern portions of the region this weekend. Most areas within the RDKB should see significantly cooler temperatures, higher humidities and possible showers on Sunday.
- ESS, Red Cross and local municipalities are on alert across the RDKB, significant advanced planning is underway.
- The RDKB EOC remains activated at Level 1 to support wildfire response in the RDKB, as well as to monitor developing situations in other regions.
Fires of Note
China Creek Fire:
- About 5 km west of Genelle, 28 hectares, burning at an elevation of 1600 metres.
- No significant growth over the last several days.
- No road access to this area, fire is burning in steep and rocky terrain and mixed fuels.
- Fire is burning towards the northwest away from residences and is within a steep rocky bowl. bowl.
- BCWS has crews working this fire and they are making good progress.
Horns Mountain / Santa Rosa Fire:
- BC Wildfire Service has implemented an area closure as per the attached map.
- This fire has crossed over into BC, burning along the Santa Rosa summit.
- 1779 ha, 50% containment on the US side.
- The area of fire within BC is approximately 359 hectares.
- 33 addresses in Big Sheep Creek and Santa Rosa remain on evacuation alert.
- Some burn off operations were undertaken yesterday on the east and west flanks and containment lines on the north flank are being fortified.
- 63 firefighters and 12 pieces of heavy equipment are actioning this fire on the Canadian side. Containment lines on the north flank are being fortified.
Lynch Creek Fire:
- This fire is located in the Granby River valley north of Grand Forks.
- An evacuation alert for 25 addresses has been rescinded.
- Those addresses no longer on evacuation alert include all properties all properties from the junction of Miller Creek Forest Service Road to Kilometer 34 on North Fork Road. The Granby River is the western boundary. The full list of addresses is available at rdkb.com.
- 122 hectares in size, 100% guarded with machine guard and wet lines. Now classified as under control.
- Lynch Creek Forest Service Road remains closed to general public.
- This will be the last update for this fire unless there are significant changes.
