MACLEAN, Marjorie Henderson

MACLEAN, Marjorie Henderson — August 28, 1927 to September 25, 2013

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.  Marge was born in Vancouver, BC and passed away peacefully September 25, 2013 at Hardy View Lodge in Grand Forks, BC. On July 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to John (Dode) MacLean in Greenwood. Marge graduated from Kitsilano High School in 1945 and after a year of Normal School started her long teaching career in Greenwood, BC. As District Librarian for School District #13 Marge was instrumental in setting up the District Resource Centre and was known as the “story lady” in the various schools she visited. After many years at summer school she graduated with her teaching degree from UBC and her masters degree in education from Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA.  She was a great teacher, community leader, mentor and friend and was honoured to receive the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal in 2012 for her many years of dedicated service to the community. Marge’s passion was the history of Greenwood and conveying many stories to visitors at the Greenwood Museum. She was predeceased by her parents Jack & Adeline; and her husband John (Dode).  Survived by her daughter Doreen, grandson Rob and great-grandson Devin; brother Harry Macdonald of West Vancouver, sisters Jessie Omand of Mexico and Marion Weekes of Port Coquitlam; brother & sister-in-law Ken & Eileen Maclean of Burnaby; numerous nieces and nephews. Forever in our hearts. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to all who cared for and visited with mom over the past several months.
