Barb Colin
The City of Greenwood is mourning the passing of City Councillor, Barb Colin. Barb Colin (nee Bannert) was born Oct. 1, 1955 in Grand Forks, B.C. and moved to Greenwood in the 1970’s. Barb was a paramedic with BC Ambulance, founder of Greenwood’s Santa’s Helper Christmas Party and a true community activist dedicated to helping others. Barb was elected to the Greenwood City Council in 2008. Her portfolio included Public Works. As a city councillor, she was instrumental in getting a wood carving depicting the Boundary Region for the Legislature currently housed at Municipal House in Victoria. Amongst Barb’s favourite pastimes were her solitary rides on her horses Saphire, Sady and Sassy. Long time friend Jeniece Uyeyama fondly remembers Barb playing ball with the Greenwood ladies and becoming a “star pitcher” and coach. In the early days Colin maintained the ball park herself. Mayor Lang announced that the ball field so loved and cared for by Ms Colin will be dedicated in her memory by the City of Greenwood by summer of 2011 and named the Barbara Diane Colin Memorial Ballpark Mayor Lang recalls Barb’s last words to her: “I love you – tell the community I love them.“
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at McArthur Centre, 1355 Veterans Lane in Greenwood. The service will start at 2 p.m. with reception to follow.
