Training time for Boundary Fire Departments

Members of the Christina Lake, Greenwood and Grand Forks Fire Departments spent last weekend refreshing their fire fighting and rescue skills during a spring training session at the Grand Forks Fire Department.

The three day training session began on Friday, March 30 and ended on Sunday, April 1. In the course of the weekend, the firefighters did 11 vehicle extraction exercises alongside fire rescue trainer Allen Tonn of KGC Fire Rescue from Parksville, B.C.

During their final extraction photographed on Sunday, April 1, the group had a minivan load full of fellow firefighters to remove. The “victims” said it was strange being on the otherside of their job — being rescued instead of doing the rescuing. It helped them understand how a person feels during a vehicle extraction and how confining a smashed up vehicle can be.
