Eleven-year-old boy drowns at Wasa Lake

RCMP said a young boy drown Sunday on Wasa Lake, north of Cranbrook.
Police said Kimberley RCMP were called to Wasa Lake, a popular summer recreation spot, on June 23, 2024 after a an inflated tube with three children on board flipped over due to high winds and rough waters.
RCMP said that one of the children, an 11-year-old boy, did not make it to shore.
RCMP said that officers with the assistance of a local resident, utilized a boat to search the lake and within minutes observed the child underneath the water.
RCMP an officer jumped into the lake and brought the boy onto the boat where CPR was initiated with the boy transported to shore where BC Emergency Health Services was awaiting as well as STARS air ambulance.
Police said the child was transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital where he was later declared deceased.

Wasa Lake is located approximately 37 kilometers north of Cranbrook on Highway 95/93.
