Grey Cup Festival Tour kicks off in West Kootenay/Boundary

The buildup to the 2024 Grey Cup in Vancouver kicked off Friday in the Heritage City.
The Grey Cup Festival Tour began its 50 city stop in the Heritage City at the Hall Street Plaza before making stops in the Sunflower City as part of Sunfest, Christina Lake and Grand Forks.
The festival will be touring 50 cities across the province from May 31- August 31 to promote the annual Grey Cup Festival event in Vancouver on November 10-17.
“What we want to do is bring the Grey Cup which will be happening in Vancouver this year to the rest of BC . . . so that it’s just not a Vancouver, or downtown Vancouver experience,” said Nathan Smith, acting supervisor for the Grey Cup Festival Tour.
“So that everybody gets a little taste of the experience of the Grey Cup so the public can tell us what they like about the Grey Cup, what they like about their community.”
During the stops on the tour, video will be taken of each event with a compilation of all the clips shown at the festival and Grey Cup in November.
The Canadian Football League season begins Thursday with defending champion Montreal Alouettes at Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a rematch of the 2023 Grey Cup game.
Host BC Lions, which lost to Winnipeg in the Western Final last year, travel to Toronto to meet the Argos Sunday at 4 p.m.
BC hosts Calgary Stampeders in their home opener Saturday, June 15th at 4 p.m.
Tickets for the game at BC Place went on sale June 4.
The game kicks off on November 17 at BC Place Stadium.
The Grey Cup Festival Tour made the first stop of the event Friday in Nelson at the Hall Street Plaza.
