RCMP said skiing incident results in fatality

RCMP said a Rossland man had died following a ski accident Tuesday at Red Mountain Resort.
RCMP said that on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 3:36 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District officer responded to a report of a 76-year-old Rossland man found in critical condition after a skiing incident on Red Mountain Resort, in Rossland.
RCMP said that another skier located the unconscious man buried under the snow in a tree well while in-bounds on resort. The skier immediately alerted Red Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol who attended and rescued the man from the well. Ski patrol members began attempts to revive the still unconscious man. The attempts continued as the man was transported by BC EHS to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, despite heroic efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has been referred to the BC Coroner’s Service.
This loss marks a sad day for the City of Rossland. The 76-year-old Rossland man was a long time, well-known Rossland resident with a deep passion for skiing. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends in this time of mourning. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are not releasing the name at this time.
