Environment Canada issues Special Weather Statement for region

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the West Kootenay/Boundary regions of the province thanks to an oncoming arctic front pushing from across the province from north to south.
Environment Canada said on Monday evening the front will begin to sweep into the region, bringing periods of snow.
Environment Canada said at the same time, a Pacific low pressure system will be approaching the coast from the west.
“As the moisture from the Pacific system interacts with the cold front from the north, periods of heavy snow are expected, and snowfall warnings may be necessary in some regions,” Environment Canada said.
Environment Canada said more winter weather expected on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The statement comes after the regions saw temperatures plummet over the weekend, dipping to lows in the high teens and low 20s.
The cold stretch saw Whitewater Ski Resort reduce operations over the weekend.
Weather in the mountains, including Highway 3 Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
