MLAs Anderson and Conroy say grants will support local arts and extracurricular activities in the Kootenays

New Democrat MLAs Brittny Anderson and Katrine Conroy say local organizations and parent advisory councils will be able to support young artists and extracurricular activities thanks to over $500,000 in Community Gaming Grant funding.
“People benefit tremendously from our local arts, culture and heritage organizations as well as the parent advisory councils,” said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Nelson-Creston. “So much hard work is involved to deliver for our communities, and I’m thrilled that our government can support them through these grants.”
“Supporting local organizations with community gaming grants helps ensure the events and activities we love can come back year after year,” said Katrine Conroy, MLA for Kootenay West. “As we work to make life better for people in the Kootenays and around B.C., we’re committed to supporting the organizations that do so much to enrich our lives.”
In the Kootenays, the following organizations are receiving over $300,000 in funding to support arts and culture:
- Rossland Historical Museum and Archives Association – $53,000
- Rossland Council for Arts and Culture – $8,400
- Nelson and District Museum, Archives, Art Gallery, and Historical Society – $36,400
- Nelson and District Arts Council – $23,000
- Capitol Theatre Restoration Society – $22,700
- Nelson History Theatre Society – $19,500
- Castlegar Sculpturewalk Society – $18,000
- Nakusp and District Museum – $18,000
- Kootenay Gallery of Art, History and Science Society – $16,000
- Nelson Civic Theatre Society – $15,000
- Association des francophones des Kootenays Ouest – $14,300
- Langham Cultural Society – $14,000
- West Kootenay Regional Arts Council – $14,000
- Kootenay Literary Society – $12,000
- Nelson Circus Performers Association – $10,500
- Taghum Community Society – $10,000
- The Greater Trail Creative Activities Centre Society for the Visual Arts – $9,500
- Arrow Lakes Historical Society – $5,300
- South Kootenay Lake ArtConnect Society – $4,000
- Kaslo Concert Society – $3,000
- The Arrow Lakes Fine Arts Guild Society – $1,200
Nearly 40 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils are also receiving a share of more than $200,000 in funding to support extracurricular events, activities, and equipment for students at Kootenay schools.
Across the province, more than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture, and over 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive more than $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
