Storm warning for Highway 3,Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass

The atmospheric river that slammed the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island is making its way to the Boundary/West Kootenay region.
Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for Highway 3,Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass as a prolonged period of heavy rain continues.
“Now through Thursday morning . . . total rainfall (between) 75 to 100 mm (is expected),” the Environment Canada website said.
“A stalled frontal system will continue to give heavy rain to the region. Snow is expected to change to rain this morning over Elk Valley near Fernie.”
Environment Canada said total rainfall amounts up to 100 mm is expected before the rain tapers off late Thursday.
Environment Canada is advising drivers that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads with localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
