Trail woman rescued from the top of Victoria Street Bridge

Trail RCMP said in its weekly media release that on Saturday, November 12, 2023, at 7:44 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and BC EHS responded to report of a 33-year-old Trail female who had left the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and climbed up a supporting steel arch on the Victoria Street Bridge, in downtown Trail.
RCMP said the woman had allegedly expressed self-harm prior to climbing onto the top of the structure.
RCMP said first responders staged in the area near the woman and were able negotiate with her to resolve the situation peacefully. KBRFR used a ladder truck to rescue the woman from the top of the arch.
Trail RCMP apprehended the 33-year-old Trail woman under the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital for further medical assessment.
“We hope that this woman can find the support she needs, and we thank our first responder partners for their quick and professional response when it came time for rescue,” says Sgt. Wicentowich
Woman sustained non-lethal gunshot wound
On Monday, November 13, 2023, at 12:10 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report from medical professionals that a year-old Trail woman had allegedly sustained a non-lethal gunshot wound to her wrist, in Trail.
RCMP said the woman had sought treatment for her injury, and the police were notified by staff. The woman declined to provide any useful information about the incident.
Trail RCMP continues to investigate the incident and has requested assistance from Southeast District General Investigation Section with the matter.
Trail RCMP note that this is the second shooting incident in a short time and it may be connected to local organized crime.
“The public was not believed to be in danger in relation to this incident,” says Sgt. Wicentowich
Nakusp man threatens medical personnel at KBH
On Monday, November 13, 2023, at 1:27 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a 32-year-old Nakusp man who allegedly threatened medical personnel with two makeshift clubs before fleeing a secure area in the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, in Trail, BC. The man had been apprehended by RCMP under the Mental Health Act and was under detention at the time he made the threats to staff.
Once the man escaped, he attempted to steal a vehicle outside of the hospital but was unsuccessful. He fled on foot from the scene and was located shortly after by the Trail RCMP. He taken into custody without incident.
Trail RCMP continues to investigate this incident and will forward a report to Crown Counsel requesting several criminal charges be sought against the 32-year-old Nakusp man.
