Barricaded man arrested after police standoff in Grand Forks
Police will be consulting with Provincial Crown after officers were called to a residence in Grand Forks to deal with a man barricaded inside a residence following an attack on paramedics.
RCMP said on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 1 p.m. officers were called to a residence on the 100 block of 81st Ave in Grand Forks.
Police were advised that a man had become violent towards two paramedics called to assist him.
Grand Forks officers arrived to find that the man had barricaded himself inside. Officers contained the area and called in additional resources to assist.
At 3 p.m., the man exited his residence, confronted police before officers were able to successfully take the man into custody.
The man was then taken to an area hospital for mental and physical assessment, but no one was injured during the incident.
“This was a very active and fluid situation,” says Grand Forks RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Darryl Peppler.
“There was no danger to public safety as we were able to contain him and keep everyone safe.”
The 56-year-old resident of Grand Forks is currently being held in custody until his next court appearance on August 18, 2021.
Police said currently, the man is facing a breach of a current Conditional Sentence Order from 2018 and will be facing a variety of new charges in the following weeks.
Police will be consulting with Provincial Crown, but expect to forward charges of Assault, Assault Police Officers, and Weapon related offences.
