BREAKING: Suspect in Trail homicide arrested

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) is continuing its investigation into the Canada Day Eve homicide in Trail and can now confirm arrest of the suspect, according to a press release issued Friday.
On July 1, 2021 a 33-year-old Trail man was arrested in relation to the Wednesday evening homicide. He has since been released from custody pending the outcome of the investigation. He has not yet been charged and will be not be identified at this time.
“We want to reaffirm that we believe that homicide was an isolated incident between two people, who were known to each other and that this individual does not pose an on-going risk to the general public, said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
Police officers from SED MCU, with assistance from the Trail RCMP are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone who was a witness to this incident and has not already spoken with police to call the SED MCU tipline at 1-877-987-8477.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) has been called to assist the Trail RCMP in investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday evening in Trail.
Just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday June 30, frontline officers from the Trail RCMP were called to assist BC Emergency Health Services at a gas station in the 800-block of Victoria Street in Trail for a report of an unconscious, injured man.
When officers arrived they discovered a 40-year-old Trail man was critically injured, and despite life saving efforts by both police and BC EHS, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at hospital.
Witnesses at the scene reported there had been an altercation at a nearby church between the victim and another man, who was known to him. The man fled on foot prior to police arrival and has not yet been located.
The SED MCU has been called to take conduct of the investigation. These investigators, along with the Forensic Identification Team will be in the area speaking to witnesses, canvassing for video and examining several scenes. The scenes were released earlier today, said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
“We understand the concern that the suspect has not been located, however we want to reassure you that this incident appears to have been an isolated incident between parties known to each other, and we do not believe there is any on-going risk to the general public, S/Sgt. Shoihet added.
