Grand Forks party host fined for failing to comply with COVID-19 measures
RCMP said in a media release that man who allegedly hosted a party in Grand Forks during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has been fined and mischief offences are being investigated.
RCMP said that after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday October 10, frontline officers from the Grand Forks RCMP were dispatched an on-going noise complaint at a residence in the 4900-block of Vernon Street.
RCMP said several callers reported hearing a live band that had reportedly been playing for several hours.
“(When) officers (arrived they) observed a live band playing in the backyard and what they estimated to be over 60 people, failing to obey physical distancing requirements and not wearing personal protective equipment,” RCMP media release said.
“The officers identified the host of the party and told him he would have to shut the event down, as it was not only non-compliant under the Covid Related Measures Act, but there had been a number of noise complaints.”
RCMP said the man allegedly refused and was issued a violation ticket for failing to abide by the direction of a law enforcement officer ($230) and failing to comply with patron distancing conditions ($230).
RCMP S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said officers were called away for another matter, however even after police had warned and fined the resident, police continued to receive noise complaints.
“As a result, officers are investigating the party host for mischief and will submit the findings of the completed investigation to BC Prosecution Services for charge assessment,” Shoihet said.
