The Trail Smoke Eaters are excited to announce they have acquired defenseman Cody Schiavon from the Surrey Eagles

Schiavon, a veteran of the BCHL, comes to Trail after spending the last two season with the Surrey Eagels, where he was an assistant captain last year, and the team’s captain this year. The Kelowna  native has strong family ties to the City of Trail and will bolster the Smokies defense with his dynamic playing style. So far this year Schiavon has four goals and six assists in 17 games for the Eagles. The Smoke Eaters send Liam Freeborn and Kieran O’Hearn to the Eagles. The Smoke Eaters also acquire the CJHL playing rights of Justyn Gurney, who is currently playing in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips.

Schiavon, a 19-year-old right shot defenseman, is one of the most dynamic two-way defenceman the BCHL has to offer, while being defensively sound in his own end. Schiavon also brings with him a NCAA commitment to Yale University for the 2020-21 season.

“The addition of Cody Schiavon drastically changes our defense core. Cody is one of the most dynamic two-way defenseman in the BCHL this season and brings an offensive skill set with his speed and playmaking ability,” said gm and head coach Jeff Tambellini. “Cody possesses a competitiveness and toughness that has him atop the league leaders in fights and penalty minutes. Finally, what we’re most excited about is we are adding a BCHL Captain to our dressing room and a player with family ties to our great city of Trail.”

The Smoke Eaters are excited to welcome Cody to the City of Trail, and look forward to seeing him wear the historic crest very shortly.

The Smoke Eaters want to thank Liam and Kieran for their time in Trail and wish them the best of luck.

The Smoke Eaters are back in action this Friday when they take on the West Kelowna Warriors at Royal LePage Place.
