Police intercept haul of drugs/cash headed to Shambhala
A shipment of drugs en route to Shambhala has been seized by police, according to a police press release issued Thursday.
“Central Saanich Police have arrested a man in his 20s and are recommending several charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking,” the release said. “The man is the subject of a months-long investigation and the most recent search warrant was executed on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
A truck and travel trailer bound for an electronic music festival was stopped on the way to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and seized.
An Application for a Warrant to Search was submitted and approved which resulted in the seizure of scales, drug packaging, illicit drugs believed to be cocaine, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), Methamphetamine, LSD, Xanax and other pharmaceuticals. Approximately $1,500 in cash was also located and seized.
As a result of the full investigation, which began in December 2018, Central Saanich Police have seized approximately $75,000 worth of illicit drugs, $36,000 in cash, 19 cell phones and nine vehicles. Referrals to the Civil Forfeiture Office have resulted, thus far, in claims against the residence, cash and the original seven vehicles seized.
Action is pending on the two most recently seized vehicles.
“Central Saanich Police Service is committed to conducting proactive investigations to keep illicit drugs out of our community,” said Deputy Chief Derren Lench. “Our Youth Resource Officer will continue to educate local students about the risks and consequences of drug use and trafficking when schools are back in session in a few weeks.”
