At 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, a Grand Forks woman was assaulted during a home invasion at her residence.

The woman, who was home alone at the time, was assaulted when an unknown man pushed his way into her house.  The man allegedly punched the woman numerous times. He indicated that he had a knife and stated he would use it on her.  The suspect then began to ransack the residence and search through the house for unknown items. The man departed the residence after stealing two 100 anniversary Bowie knives and cash from the woman’s wallet.

“This violent act has caused us concern, and isn’t the kind of investigation we normally experience in the community of Grand Forks.  We intend to utilize every available resource to identify the suspect and bring him before the courts,” said Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison. “We will be working around the clock gathering evidence and doing a thorough investigation.”

The man was described as being 5’6” to 5’7”, approximately 160 lbs and wearing a black hoodie and sunglasses.

The victim and assailant were not known to each other.

The Grand Forks RCMP is seeking assistance from the public regarding this investigation, and encourage anyone with information about this crime to contact the Grand Forks RCMP Detachment at (250) 442-8288 or BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“We’re hoping the public will give us a tip or two to head us in the right direction,” Harrison said. “This is a no-stone-unturned kind of investigation.”
