Have your say this fall!
Have you moved or changed your name since the last election? Are you a registered voter for BC? The BC government wants to make sure that everyone who is eligible can vote in the October – November referendum on electoral reform, and urges everyone to either register, or make sure their voter information is up-to-date.
Chief Electoral Officer Anton Boegman says, “If your voter information is current, you will get a referendum voting package in the mail later this fall.”
Then, whatever your thoughts on electoral reform, you can cast your vote. If you haven’t got around to forming an opinion on the basis of facts, rather than ads or facebook memes, you can read a neutral description of each voting system, including the one we use now, at this link: https://elections.bc.ca/referendum/voting-systems/
Voters can register or update their voter information online at elections.bc.ca/ovr, or by calling 1-800-661-8683 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Between now and the end of September a Referendum Information Card will be mailed to every household in the province to raise awareness of the referendum and encourage voters to make sure their voter information is current and accurate. Referendum voting packages will be distributed between October 22 and November 2, 2018.
Let’s all make sure we have the electoral system that most of us want — so prepare to cast your vote!
