In celebration of BC’s moratorium on the grizzly bear hunt, Grizzly Bear Foundation is embracing the shift from triggers to tripods by holding a photo contest to find and recognize the Canadian Amateur Grizzly Photographer of the Year. And the Grizzly Bear Foundation is promising prizes; see below.

Grizzly Bear Foundation is seeking photos of grizzly bears looking their best in their natural Canadian habitat, whether that be plains, mountains, rivers, or forests. The contest is open to amateur photographers with a deep appreciation for grizzlies, who wish to celebrate the grizzly bear as a Canadian icon that’s worth protecting, not killing.

Interested in submitting a photo? Here are some things to keep in mind:

·Take sharp, high resolution photos as Grizzly Bear Foundation would like to share entered photos for editorial purposes, with the accompanying hashtag #TriggersToTripods.

·All photographs must have been obtained in a respectful and ethical manner (no selfies, no baiting).

·For your own safety, keep your distance from bears. That’s part of the “respectful” manner mentioned above. Your telephoto lens is your friend.

Photographs must be entered at grizzlybearfoundation.com/photo-contest by November 15 and winners awarded by December 15, 2018  – in time for hibernation. There is no limit to the number of submissions that can be made, and friends and family can vote to award a People’s Choice. Full contest rules can be found online. Entries will be judged by a panel, based on photographic quality, composition, and creativity.
