RCMP said pedestrian struck by vehicle at popular pullout area near Field, BC

A 54-year-old woman from Quebec was was pronounced deceased at the scene after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon at a popular road pullout near Field, BC., Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, District Advisory NCO for the RCMP South East District said in a media release Monday.

Moskaluk said the woman suffered fatal injuries during the collision.

Golden RCMP and RCMP Traffic Service investigators responded to a call Sunday, August 20, at 3:30 pm MST, of a pedestrian-motor-vehicle-collision on Takkakaw Falls Road.

Moskaluk said preliminary findings indicate that the male driver of a 2017 Kia, was travelling north bound on Takkakaw Falls Road, when it crossed over the southbound lane and into a southbound pullout where he struck a female who was taking photos.

The 54 year old Quebec woman who was visiting from out of Province with her husband,” Moskaluk said.

Witnesses also confirmed that the driver narrowly missed a second pedestrian prior to rear ending the female victim’s vehicle. The driver and his passengers were transported to Banff hospital with minor injuries.

Takkakaw Falls Road is located just east of the town of Field. The collision occurred in an area which sees high volumes of tourist traffic.

 

Moskaluk said alcohol was not a factor in this collision and that the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
