There’s a bit of a changing of the guard on the Kootenay Summer Swim Association.

The Grand Forks Piranhas won its second meet of the season, capturing the home Piranhas Invitational Saturday at the Boundary City Pool.

The Piranhas nosed out Trail Stingrays and Colville for the overall title. Nelson Neptunes finished fourth with Castlegar Aquanauts fifth and Creston sixth.

“I’m so excited to say the Piranhas won their own meet,” said Grand Forks coach Samantta Villanueva.

“We won with 228 points as a team which was 60 points higher than the second-place team.”

Villanueva said not only did the Boundary City squad dominate the team standings, but also the Piranhas swimmers also made a big splash in the pool.

“There were 32 personal best times scored during our one-day “B” meet,” she said.

“We had 33 of our swimmers competing; it was the first competition of the season for 15 of these swimmers who had some great swims. Each of our eight relay teams placed in the top three in their respective categories.”

Villanueva said Violet Lewis competed for the first time in the division 1 category and courageously took on 50 meter races while four other swimmers from the under-six category took on a 50 meter race to compete on a Division 1 relay team.

“Lexi Jo Friesen, Alice Armstrong, Kylee deVries, and Calista McBride all put in an extra effort to complete in this fun event and had amazing swims,” Villanueva said.

Below are the recipients of aggregate medals for top points in the meet:

  • Div 1 girls: Lexi deVries placed third
