Boundary region placed on Flood Watch

The Grand Forks, Boundary, Christina Lake are has been placed under a flood watch due to the warm temperatures that is causing a quick melt of the snowpack.
The result forced the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) to activate its Emergency Operations Centre in Grand Forks in response to rising river and creek levels in the Boundary.
“If you are affected by rising waters please call 1-888-747-9119. Residents are advised to stay away from creeks and rivers until further notice as they are running high and are dangerous,” the RDKB release said.

In Christina lake, the lake water levels are also very high and rising.
The RDKB is recommending recreation users not to boat on the lake.
“Boat wakes can have significant impact on vulnerable water front properties; worsen potential flood areas and cause damage,” the release said.
“If you must be on the lake, please reduce your wake, at all times.”
The RDKB said to the public to keep in mind that navigation on the lake is quite hazardous due to the unsafe conditions resulting from significant debris floating on the lake, including large trees and branches etc.
Environment Canada has forecasted the hot trend to continues, calling for temperatures above 30 C for Monday and Tuesday with a risk of thunderstorm.
