Castlegar and Grand Forks Air Cadets visit Operation PALACI

During a recent weekend in February, Air Cadets from Grand Forks and Castlegar travelled to the Roger’s Pass to visit the Canadian Forces Personnel who are part of Operation PALACI.
Every year, from November to April, the artillery task force is deployed in Rogers Pass with 105-mm howitzers modified for precision firing from roadside gun platforms. This year, artillery troops are from 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, based out of CFB Shilo, Manitoba, as well various reserve artillery units.
The cadets where given a tour of the Operation Base and the equipment used in the avalanche control program that Operation PALACI runs in conjunction with Parks Canada.
The trip to Operation PALACI is one of the activities that cadets take part in to learn more about the Canadian Armed Forces and it`s roles.
The Grand Forks squadron meets every Tuesday at the Grand Forks Legion Hall. The Castlegar squadron also meets on Tuesday in the Castlegar Cadet Hall at 216 8th Ave.
The squadrons always welcome new cadets who are between the ages of 12 and 18 years.
Adults who would like to volunteer with squadron are also welcome.
