Charges Laid in Crawford Bay Cheetah Incident

Two people have been charged after a cheetah was seen wandering the roadside by a motorist on Highway 3A near Kootenay Bay in December 2015.
The Conservation Office Service Facebook page said man and woman have been charged with one count each under the Controlled Alien Species Regulation.
The Facebook page said both individuals have a first appearance date of February 17, 2017 at 09:30 a.m. in Creston Provincial Court.
The missing cheetah last seen roaming along Highway 3A in the afternoon of December, 17 2015, near Crawford Bay and Kootenay Bay.
Conservation officials spoke to a person of interest at the time of the report and RCMP released a statement warning the public of the wandering cheetah.
The witness was able to photograph the animal and reported the incident to the Creston RCMP.
When the man and woman appear in court, they will answer to the charges of:
- Count 1, on or about December 17, 2015, at or near Crawford Bay BC, did commit an offence of possess alien species without a permit, contrary to section 6(1) (a) Controlled Alien Species Regulation.
