Revelstoke RCMP rescue injured bald eagle

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Dec. 16, the Revelstoke RCMP were informed of an injured bald eagle near the Illecillewaet River and Simpson Street. Upon arrival, locals Dorn Crowe and Terry Duncan were attempting to apprehend the eagle, who later became known as Illy. The bald eagle appeared to be suffering from a damaged wing.
After a phone a few calls and inquiries on how best to assist Illy, Cst. Mark Williams and Cpl. Blakney put a plan into place. Illy was quite easily influenced with the pieces of salmon and in a Canadian-like way, a hockey stick was used, not only to strategically place the fish but also to hold her in place while Michael Morris placed a blanket over her.
On Dec. 17, Illy was transported to the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops, where she was assessed by medical staff who diagnosed her with a fractured wing and anemia. Illy will require a blood transfusion, and hopefully make a full recovery. The expectation is to return Illy to the Illecillewaet River area.
The Revelstoke RCMP would like to thank all those involved, including the city of Revelstoke Animal Control Enforcement Officers and the medical staff at the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops, BC, including the Fawcett Family Wildlife Health Centre where Illy and other injured animals are being cared for.
