Kootenay Pass closed for avalanche control
DriveBC has issued a road warning for Highway 3 in near the summit of the Kootenay Pass.
Snow accumulation during Monday’s snowfall warning has forced closure of the Kootenay Pass near the summit in both directions for avalanche control from Noon until 2 p.m.
Traffic is being diverted via Highway 3A on the Kootenay Lake Ferry. Next update is slated for 2 p.m.
Snowfall warning remains for West Kootenay/Boundary highways
Environment Canada said a snowfall warning, with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm continues in the West Kootenay region.
Environment Canada said a Pacific frontal system is spreading snow at times heavy to the Kootenay regions.
“An additional 10 to 15 cm of snow can be expected over West Kootenay and Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass today,” the warning on the Environment Canada website said. ‘The snow will ease this afternoon as the front departs.”
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
