Crawford Bay Community Park reaches finals in first-ever BCAA play space revitalization award
BCAA announced that Crawford Bay Community Park has been named one of five BCAA Play Here finalists.
Chosen from over 400 entries province-wide, Crawford Bay Community Park, located on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake 35 kilometers north of Nelson, is now in the running for a play space revitalization worth up to $100,000 from BCAA.
“If we win the BCAA contest, and eventually, even if we don’t – this is our dream for the space,” said Ellie Reynolds of the Crawford Bay committee.
Reynolds is hopeful communities in the West Kootenay will jump on board the Crawford Bay bandwagon to help with votes for the small community in a race against much larger communities.
As outlined in their BCAA Play Here nomination, the play elements at the Crawford Bay Community Park are outdated, in bad repair, unsafe and uninviting, making it an underused resource rarely frequented by local and visiting young families.
A new Crawford Bay Community Park would be a great place for kids to play and develop social and physical skills.
“The Crawford Bay Community Park nomination stood out from the over 400 nominations we received because of the positive impact it would have on the Crawford Bay community and the innovative ideas the nominators outlined for natural play space features,” said Shawn Pettipas, BCAA Manager, Community Impact.
Giving children better places to play builds on BCAA’s mandate to protect children throughout British Columbia.
“BCAA Play Here is one of the largest community investments in our history,” Pettipas said.
“We congratulate Crawford Bay Community Park on being named a finalist and we’re excited to find out which play space will be chosen by British Columbians.”
The finalist with the most votes will be awarded with a play space revitalization worth up to $100,000 furnished by BCAA. Voting closes June 29, 2016 and the winner will be announced July 11, 2016.
British Columbians are invited to visit BC Play Anywhere website to view details about each finalist and cast a vote for their favourite.
Play space finalist with the most votes receives revitalization worth up to $100,000.
