Nelson Search and Rescue called in assist in medical evacuations

It’s been a busy week for Nelson Search and Rescue.
NSAR public information officer Chris Armstrong said in a media release that twice in a matter of days the local search and rescue body was activated for a pair of medical evacuations from backcountry lodges this week.
Armstrong said Tuesday (February 9th) NSAR was called out to evacuate a male by helicopter from Powder Creek Lodge.
The subject suffered an accidental fall within the lodge resulting in a serious back injury that required immediate medical attention.
NASR was able to access the lodge through dense valley cloud and transferred the subject to BCEHS.
Then on Thursday (February 11th) NSAR was again activated to evacuate a subject from the Slocan Chief Cabin in Kokanee Glacier Park.
Armstrong said the subject was suffering from heart issues and was in need of medical aid.
NSAR was again able to access the area through dense valley cloud by helicopter but was unable to get back through the valley cloud on return flight.
Armstrong said the subject was flown to the Busk ski area parking lot above the cloud cover and was safely transferred to BC Emergency Health Services.
