Nakusp RCMP evacuate residents after search warrant uncovers possible explosives in a home
Nakusp RCMP have put a mobile home park on lock down after uncovering what may be explosives during a execution of a search warrant at a residence early Monday morning.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a media release Monday afternoon, “at this time our main priority is the safety of our residents.”
“The area is secured at this time and we will await the arrival of our Explosives Detection resources prior to continuing any further,” Moskaluk said.
“It is anticipated that this incident will carry through well into the evening.”
Moskaluk said Nakusp RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Canyon Trailer Park located on 9A Avenue at 9 a.m., as result of an ongoing investigation of illegal possession of explosives.
“A male resident was home at the time of police attendance and was cooperative with officers,” Moskaluk said.
“The man was taken into custody when officers located what appeared to be dynamite in the home.”
Moskaluk said officers removed the man from the home and immediately notified the nearby residents, advising them of the situation and that it was a necessary precaution that they be evacuated until the items could be properly examined and dealt with by the BCRCMP Explosives Detection Unit.
“Local emergency response agencies and the local hospital have been notified of the situation in addition to the local town officials,” he said.
“An RCMP explosives detection service dog has been called out to attend in addition to the BCRCMP Explosives Detection Unit that is presently en-route.”
