Second person involved in a string of Nelson robberies found guilty
The second person involved in a string of robberies that terrorized financial institutions and the public throughout the West Kootenay in spring of 2014 was found guilty of five counts by a jury during the weekend at Provincial Court in Nelson.
Krista Kalmikoff found guilty of the charges that included fleeing from police after the NDCU robbery, possession of the stolen cash and possession of stolen pharmaceuticals taken in the break and enters at two Castlegar pharmacies in March 2014.
Kalmikoff’s accomplice in the robberies, that also included armed holdups of the Nelson and District Credit Union and Kootenay Currency Exchange, located on the 500 and 700 blocks of Vernon Street in the Heritage City, as well as a high-speed chase that ended on a bridge across the Kootenay River near Bonnington Andrew Stevenson is currently serving a 10-year sentence handed down in September 2015.
The jury took two days to deliberate after being charged by the judge Friday following the trial.
Kalmikoff will now wait for sentencing in the New Year.
