Nelsonites join Canadians trek to the polls in the 42nd Canadian General Election

It’s Election Day in Canada — the 42nd Canadian General Election in Canadian history.
Canadians are off to the polls across the country Monday to elect members to the House of Commons of Canada.
If early voter traffic at Taghum Hall is am indication of what is to come, then there promises to be an increase of voting across Canada.
That would follow the strong advanced polls where, according to Elections Canada, 3.6 million electors voted, which is a marked increase from the 2.1 million electors who voted in advance for the 2011 general election.
In Kootenay Columbia riding, four candidates appear on the ballot — Bill Green of the Green Party, Liberal candidate Don Johnston, Wayne Stetski of the NDP and incumbent David Wilks of the Conservative Party.
In the South Okanagan – West Kootenay riding, five candidates appear onn the ballot — Richard Cannings, NDP; Connie Denesiuk, Liberal; Independent Brian Gray; Marshall Neufeld Conservative and Samantha Troy, Green Party — running to replace former NDP MP Alex Atamenko, who stepped down after Pariliament was dissolved.
Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Nelson and area residents can cast their votes at the following locations.
