LIBRARY MUSINGS: Summer reading club plans and poetry cafe
With all the sunny weather we’ve been having, it’s hard not to start thinking about summer. And once you start thinking about summer, you probably can’t help but get excited about the library’s annual Summer Reading Club – which will run from July 7 to August 21! This year, we’ll be hiring two coordinators (both should be ages 16 – 30) – one to work from June 10-August 29 at 30 hrs/week, and one to work from July 2 – August 27 at 30 hrs/week. For more information and complete job descriptions, visit our website at grandforks.bclibrary.ca.
Poetry Cafe
You are all cordially invited to attend the Writers Guild’s Poetry Cafe at the library on Thursday, April 23 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Recite your own poetry, read something from one of your favourite poets, or just come and listen! Refreshments will be provided.
Fabulous Friday
Come to the library on Friday, April 24 from 2:00 to 3:30 for a fun-filled fabulous friday – we’ve got crafts, board games, chess, and lots more! All ages welcome.
Nikki Tate
We are happy to announce that award-winning author Nikki Tate will be at the library on Saturday, May 2 at 11 am. She will be reading from her Red Cedar nominated book “Down to Earth: How Kids Help Feed the World”. Her presentation will be suitable for all ages – families are encouraged to attend!
NFB Film Night
We’ll be screening the NFB documentary “Out of Mind, Out of Sight” on Thursday, May 7 at 6:30 pm. It profiles four residents of the Brockville Mental Health Clinic as they struggle to regain control over their lives and prepare to return to society. Four-time Emmy winner John Kastner takes you behind the scenes at Brockville, shining a light on these types of institutions and how they function. Popcorn will be served!
