Trail or Castlegar residents dealing with chronic pain or illness may find their lives eased, as Self-Management BC (a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the University of Victoria) is offering free workshops in both cities to help both pain sufferers and their friends/families/caregivers.

“Would you like to better manage your pain?” asks representative Carol Sicoli. “If ‘yes’, please come to this workshop where you will: understand the pain and symptom cycle; manage pain so that you can continue living a healthy life; pace your activities to better manage your time; plan for regular, physical activity; deal with difficult emotions; manage fatigue; communicate effectively with your health care team; make daily tasks easier; set realistic goals and learn problem-solving.”

To register: Call toll-free 1-866-902-3767 or http://www.selfmanagementbc.ca or email selfmgmt@uvic.ca. ALL participants receive a free book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and the Chronic Pain Self-Management workbook (including the Easy Moving Program CD).

“We welcome adults who are living with any ongoing physical condition, especially chronic pain,”Sicoli said.  “As well, family members, friends or caregivers are welcome to attend.”
