For the past three years, a favorite local Family Day celebration has been the Boundary Métis Community Association’s annual Wilgress Lake Fish Derby.  The derby is not only a fundraiser for local youth activities, it also includes a ton of great prizes for the biggest fish including first, second, and third prizes for women/ girls and men/ boys; as well as prizes for the youngest and oldest fisherperson.

The Snow Sculpting competition, inspired by the Anderson family for creating their own Wilgress Rest – a snow couch and fridge in the middle of the lake – has become very popular!  Last year’s sculptures included Wilgretta the voluptuous Mermaid, the Wilgress Lake Monster (fish) that got away, and small sculptures children created included the Lake Snake and Snow Dog, and Wilgress Wogowogo.

This year marks the 4th annual Wilgress Lake Fishing Derby and we are so excited that one of our snow sculpting judges is the world renowned Métis artist and carver Terry Jackson! So come on out and meet Terry and create a sculpture of your very own!

Looking for something great for your special someone on Valentine’s Day? The Love of Fishing raffle baskets are drawn daily and these baskets are for the fisherperson’s Love! Tickets are available on location at the derby.
