LIBRARY MUSINGS: AGM coming up; Mother Goose is back
Our public library is governed by a Board of Directors – they approve policy, budgets and plan strategically for the future of library service in our community. Our Annual General Meeting is coming up soon (March 4 at 7 pm), and the board has put out a Call for Nominations for people who would like to join the board.
Library board members need to be actively interested in the improvement of library services. They should be available to attend monthly meetings, and be willing to take the time to remain informed about library issues. To be eligible to be nominated to run for the Board of Trustees you must be over the age of 18, a member of the Grand Forks & District Public Library in good standing, and live in Area C, Area D, or the City of Grand Forks.
If you’re interested in joining the board, or just want to find out more, give us a call or drop by the library to pick up a nomination form.
Adopt-a-Magazine
For those of you who missed my last article – we’re launching an Adopt-a-magazine program, in which individuals or businesses can donate the cost of the annual subscription of a magazine (the list of options is at the library), and in exchange we’ll acknowledge you on a label on each issue (unless you want to remain anonymous). So far we’ve had a few lucky magazines get adopted – but we need more help! It’s a great (and tax-deductible) way to support your public library.
Vision Boards
What’s in your future? Join us on Thursday, January 22 from 6 – 8 pm to create your very own vision board. Everyone is invited to attend this free workshop, and all materials will be provided.
Lego
All you fans of Lego, we’ll see you here for our next Legoland day: Friday, January 23 from 2 – 3:30 pm. Don’t miss out on the block-building bonanza!
Mother Goose
It’s back! Our parent-child Mother Goose Program will be returning –Saturday mornings from January 24 to March 21, from 10:30 am to 11:15 am. It’s for children ages 0-3, and their parents or caregivers. You’ll get to learn rhymes, songs and stories to use at home with your little ones! For more information, call us at 442-3944.
Family Literacy Day
Come to the library on Saturday, January 31 from 2:30-4:30 for a fun-filled Family Literacy Day event. We’ve got crafts and activities for the first hour, and then the always-hilarious Lucas Myers will be putting on a family comedy show (for all ages) in the second hour. This free event is a partnership with CBAL, with funding generously provided by the Grand Forks Credit Union.
