Our library subscribes to dozens of magazines – these are read widely and voraciously by many of you. This year, we are re-launching our Adopt-a-Magazine program, in which you can donate the cost of the annual subscription of your favourite magazine. Your generosity will be recognized with a label on each issue (unless you’d like to remain anonymous) – it’s an effective way to advertise your business, honour a friend or family member, or just support your local library!

The cost of a subscription ranges from $29 and up, and the magazines that are looking to be adopted include: The Amazing Spiderman, Bon Appetit, Canadian House & Home, Cooking Light, The Family Handyman, Fine Gardening, Globe & Mail (Saturday), Money Sense, Mother Earth News, People, Quiltmaker, Style at Home, Threads, Yoga Journal, and lots more. If you’re interested in supporting our magazine collection in this way, give us a call at 442-3944 or drop by and visit us.

NFB Film Club

This month we’ll be screening the film “Danny” – on Thursday, January 8 at 6:30 pm. It’s the story of the most popular and controversial Canadian politician of his era: Danny Williams (Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador from 2003 to 2010). Refreshments will be served.

Fridays

The next two Fridays are fun-filled here at the library – we’ve got Legoland happening on January 9 from 2:00 – 3:30, and Fabulous Friday on January 16 from 2:00 – 3:30 (chess, boardgames, crafts, and more!)

Local Author

Come to the library on Saturday, January 17 at 3:00 pm for a reading and book signing with local author Denn Thome. He’ll be reading excerpts from his two new books: “Tales of Canadian Rurality” and “Other F Words – Experiments in Floetry”.

Board Meeting

The library board will be meeting on Wednesday, January 21 at 12:00 pm – everyone is welcome to attend!

Kids Knit

Our new knitting program for kids will be starting up on Thursday, January 8. It’ll run on Thursday afternoons from 3:45 – 5:15 (for those in grades 4 and up). All materials provided free of charge.

For more information on any of these programs, to read staff reviews, or to find books, DVDs, magazines and much more, visit our website at www.grandforks.bclibrary.ca.
