Fire and Ice Winterfest in CL; festival grows again

Christina Lake Winterfest 2015 is gearing up to be a fabulous event this year.  Mark those calendars, get those ball teams together, plan to stay at the lake for a great weekend of winter fun! This year’s theme is “Fire and Ice.” From ice sculpting to fire dancing, this is going to be one memorable year!

Winterfest kicks off at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, at The Christina Living Arts Centre for “Youth Talent  & Open Mic Nite.” Come have some dinner at Lisa’s Bistro and showcase your talents- singing, music, poetry, comedy, dance.  Our community is filled with talent and we want to see yours!

Friday night at the Community Hall from 6-9:30pm, youth and adult ball hockey will be on the slab, snow-pitch begins on the ball diamond under the lights with movie, games and crafts inside the Community Hall.  Pizza from Portly Penguin Pizza will be served all evening, and there will be popcorn and refreshments. 

Saturday’s events begin with pancake breakfast at 8am at the Hall, with a day full of activities to follow. Kids Games, Ball Hockey and Snow-Pitch tournament continues.  Prizes awarded to best-dressed teams and trophy to the winning team!   Of course the ever popular “Minute 2 Win- it”, will be played and will include an adult series of the game this year.  Ollie’s Pie and Chilli Contest is on, so get those recipes ready, we will look forward to tasting!!  Calling all Photographers, 2015 Winterfest Photo contest begins! Send Digital images to cindy@christinalake.ca ($3 Fee applies for printing) no later than Jan 28 at 10am, or drop off enlarged 8 x 10 hard copy to The Welcome Centre.  Keep an eye out for icicles; the longest icicle contest is back again!   Bring your icicle on Saturday Jan 31 at 11am for judging.  There will also be a concession and BBQ during the day to keep you going!  There will be something for everyone with a participation draw for all who attend, so get involved in the games or be a spectator, chill back and enjoy this action packed day!  The fun keeps going with a Spaghetti Dinner, Fire Spinning on the field and a “Snow Ball Dance” to end the night.  Get those dancing shoes out;  “Blue Crush “ will be here to rock the night away! A perfect way to warm up from the day’s events. Tickets for “Blue Crush” 7:30pm-12am available at the Welcome Centre and Thistle Pot Gifts.

Sunday’s events begin at 12:30pm with the Polar Bear Dip.  As always, special prizes for all those brave souls who take the plunge.  A warm fire and hot chocolate will be waiting for you all behind the Welcome Centre where the outdoor fun begins.   Human Dog Sled Races, Fire and Ice Sculpting, and Meet the Minis from Owl Mountain Ranch.  Crib and Poker tournaments inside for those who want to stay warm! Top the weekend off at our Winterfest Super Bowl Party at The Crow and Bear, come watch the show on their brand new giant screen!
