BC Coroner identifies Slocan Park residents killed in snowmobile accident near Nakusp

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man and woman who died after a snowmobile incident near Nakusp on Sunday (December 14) as Calvin Leo White, aged 27, from Slocan Park, and Elise Lindberg Hansen, aged 29, from Winlaw.

White and Hansen were riding a long-track snowmobile on an unplowed forestry road near the Nakusp hot mineral springs on the evening of December 14 when they collided with a tree that had fallen horizontally across the road.

They two were found by hikers in the area the next day.

Both were deceased at the scene.  

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The families of Mr. White and Ms. Hansen have been notified of their deaths. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

Two Slocan Park residents killed in snowmobile accident north of Nakusp

Two residents of Slocan Park have died in a snowmobile accident Monday approximately 25 kilometres north of Nakusp.

Nakusp RCMP Cpl. Ryan Fehler said the fatal collision happened in a remote area approximately seven kilometers from Highway 23 on a non-maintained section of the Halfway Hotsprings Forest Service Road.

“The collision is believed to have occurred sometime during the previous evening,” Cpl. Ryan Fehler said in a media release.

“Two residents of Slocan Park, a 27-year-old-male and a 29-year-old-female, died as a result of the collision with a downed tree.”

“Neither were wearing helmets at the time of the collision,” he added.

Cpl. Fehler said the identity of the male and female are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin and continued investigation by the BC Coroners Service.
