Each year, Relay For Life participants from across Canada come together to celebrate the lives of those who have overcome cancer, remember loved ones lost and empower individuals and communities to fight back against the disease. The 2014 Boundary Relay For Life committee, participants, sponsors, survivors and volunteers knocked it out of the park!

The Canadian Cancer Society signature fundraiser Relay For Life is going strong in Grand Forks, Boundary Country! The 2014 event saw 123 participants on 15 teams raise $51,549 – not only surpassing the previous year’s total but overshooting their budget by a whopping 15%! This could not have happened without the hard work of Leadership Chair Jennifer Edwards and the rest of the dedicated planning committee.

The generosity of Grand Forks and Boundary communities is outstanding. Community members and businesses stepped up and have brought life back into Relay For Life. Top 5 Fundraising Teams: Grand Forks Credit Union $4707.68; Overwaitea #24 Over Cancer – $3620.25; Jazzercise Grand Forks – $3125.10; The Brief Crusaders – $2891; Pharmasave Grand Forks – $2134.99. Top 5 Fundraisers: Debra Battrick; Lynn Whyte; Evan Laudrum; Trish Horz;Marguerite Rotvold. Thank You to everyone who sponsored, fundraised, volunteered, and supported the 2014 Relay For Life.

With 2015 quickly approaching the excitement is in the air and the Relay committee has already started meeting! “We are always looking for more help to take this great event and make it even better! As with other fundraisers, volunteers are the key to our success and there is always room for more. I’m so excited to be stepping back into the role of Leadership chair for 2015, and am thrilled to once again have an outstanding committee. Rob Ogloff, Myrna Logan, Elaine Webber, Cheryl Smith, Alanna McNabb, and Seth Edwards will once again join me in planning the Boundary Relay For Life, and we’ll welcome some new faces to our committee as well. The Canadian Cancer Society offers so many supports and services for anyone in the Boundary to access and each year I hear of more members in our community who are doing so. The support of Boundary communities is always so overwhelming and we all play such a vital role in funding important work to eradicate cancer and help those in need.” says Jennifer Edwards.

The Canadian Cancer Society and the Relay For Life Committee is inviting all of you in the Boundary Country to join this year’s Relay For Life in Grand Forks on June 6th, 2015. Come celebrate this year’s theme, Rock ‘n’ Roll Relay: Rock Out to Knock Out Cancer! A personal fight against Cancer takes courage, a community’s fight takes commitment. “We encourage you to get involved with Relay For Life, whether you are a past participant, cancer survivor, or are joining Relay for the very first time,” says Edwards. “Not only is it a chance to support a great cause, but also a chance to do something healthy and fun. The whole experience, from the Survivor’s lap to the Luminary ceremony, and all the entertainment in between, will keep you coming back.”
