Mill fire near Burns Lake injures three

Three people are seriously injured after a mill fire near Burns Lake, according to RCMP Cpl. D.J. (Dave) Tyreman.

“On Oct. 9, at 8:59 a.m., the Burns Lake RCMP was notified of a fire at a local mill located 16 km east of Burns Lake and were called in to support BC Ambulance Service and the Burns Lake Fire Department,” Tyreman said.

“Information at this time is; three individuals received serious, but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the fire. At the time of the fire, the mill was shut down and all employees evacuated (approximately 30 people) to a safe area.

“Only access to the mill has been affected at this time and all local roads remain open.

“The investigation is in its very early stages and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”
