It’s all sails ahead for the Rotary Club of Grand Forks’ first Lobster fest.

The Rotary Club announced the lobster dinner earlier this year as a fundraiser for the coming Rotary Children’s Spray Park. Tickets were sold for $100 each and now, two weeks from the event, they have sold out.

The big day is Sept. 6 at the Christina Lake Community Hall and all the proceeds will go to the spray park, which will be built in Grand Forks’ City Park.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said club president Wayne Christensen. “You can expect great food starting with fresh lobster being flown in from the Maritimes via WestJet and local produce to complement the lobster.”

Rotary director Graham Watt went on to say, “All the veggies and other produce will come from the Boundary. It’s going to be East meets West. Everything is going to be prepared by a local chef, Devon Butterfield.”

Lobster Fest is open to all and has a “dressy casual” dress code.

Watt said that lobster fests have been very successful in other cities in B.C. such as Kelowna and Merritt.

The Rotary Club took on the spray park project less than a year ago and the Lobster Fest is one of their main fundraiser projects this year. They feel the spray park is a worthy addition to the area.

“The spray park will be a wonderful addition to the park and to the city,” said Christensen. “It promotes health play activity for children and will help attract young families to the community. It’ll also attract locals and tourists to the downtown core. These are all core beliefs of Rotary that include family, community and the well-being of children.”

Lobster Fest also features great live music from popular local band Mad Dog. Other fundraisers include a silent auction and raffle draw. The draw will be for a flight anywhere WestJet flies.

For people that can’t make it out to the Lobster Fest, tickets can be purchased at Sears in Grand Forks, gallery 2, the Christina Lake Welcome Centre and through any Rotarian.
