No injuries after Teck incident last night
While some residents may have been alarmed by an incident at Teck Cominco last night, spokesperson Catherine Adair says there is no cause for concern, despite sirens and what appeared to be smoke coming from the mill.
“Shortly after 9 p..m., the Lead Smelter experienced an unplanned local power outage,” Adair said. “This resulted in the venting of some in-process gases from the KIVCET furnace and Slag Fuming Furnaces, which was visible both on site and to the community.
“The furnaces were immediately shutdown and plant personnel worked safely to resolve the issue,” she added. “There were no injuries. Power was restored by 10:30 p.m. and a full investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.”
