Greenwood celebrated 117 years by pulling out the stops at their annual celebration, Saturday.

The day started with a pancake breakfast and parade, which is usual for the event, but it was expanded on many fronts.

They had 60 vendors set up around the fair, which was held at O’Hairi Park in downtown Greenwood. The number, according to event organizer and Board of Trade Vice President Heather Smith, was four times as much as usual.

“We usually had about 15 (vendors) before,” she said. “We really did search out vendors (this year).”

Vendors came from as far away as Vernon with many Boundary vendors setting up shop in Greenwood.

Smith said the vendors were fantastic and after they had taken their booths down for the day, she walked through with a bag, expecting to clean up after them but couldn’t find anything.

“(They) didn’t leave anything for us,” she said.

She didn’t have the number of visitors on hand but said they had definitely gone up and the event was “very successful.”

In the afternoon, visitors took turns singing karaoke on the stage while others rested in the sun, had lunch and chatted.

When it cooled off in the evening, many visitors started coming back to watch the five live acts put on by local groups.

“It was awesome,” said Smith, noting that when it started to cool off around 5 or 6 p.m. they definitely saw more people at the fair.

Smith said the organizers already have ideas for next years event, although they aren’t sharing them. She expects the numbers to be doubled next year.
