Murder/attempted suicide in Lumby

Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder and attempted suicide after a report of a disturbance resulted in the discovery of a woman’s body and an injured male Thursday evening.
On June 19 at 6:12 pm, the Lumby RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence on the 300 block of Trinity Valley Road near Lumby. Police resources from Lumby and the Vernon Detachment, including a Police Service Dog Unit, were dispatched to the call. Upon arriving at the property, police located the body of a 51-year-old Lumby woman and a man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman’s death is being treated as a homicide. The man was transported by BC Air Ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital where he remains in serious condition and in police custody. The deceased woman and the injured man are known to one another and have been in a relationship for a brief period of time. The initial investigation has determined that there have been no previous calls to police for attendance to this property during their short relationship.
The investigation is in the preliminary stages with police focussing on what happened and why.
Charges against the injured man will be recommended in consultation with Crown Counsel.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit with assistance from North Okanagan Detachment General Investigation Section, “E” Division Serious Crimes Unit and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
