A convenience store clerk in Nelson was pepper sprayed Friday as part of a robbery, according to NPD Sgt. Paul Bayes.

“On … May 23 at approximately 9:15 p.m., two culprits entered a Nelson convenience store, pepper-sprayed a staff member, then demanded cash and other items,” Bayes said.

“The culprits fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and product.”

He said witnesses observed the event and called 911, at which point NPD and BC Ambulance Services attended the scene.

“The staff member was checked and treated for minor injuries as a result of being sprayed,” he said. “Anyone with any information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Nelson Police Department at 354-3919 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.”

The investigation is ongoing.
