New Trail float draws compliments and critique

Silver City Days hosted a variety of floats this year. Among them was the City of Trail’s new float for the ambassadors of Trail.
This year’s Miss Trail, Ella Meyer, stood at the top and the princesses sat on benches below. At their feet was a model of the Trail bridge and climbing up the truck was a model of the red Trail staircase.
Andrea Jolly, City of Trail Communications and Events Co-ordinator, said, “The float will represent Trail as it tours around the province for years to come.”
Jolly explained that the float was built by a company called Across the Board Creations, which is located in Creston B.C. The budget for the float was $70,000.
“Local companies could not provide what the city needed as the scope of the project required specific equipment,” said Jolly.
Ian McLeod, president of the Trail Festival Society/Silver City Days’ Committee, said, “I wasn’t overly impressed with the new float.”
McLeod in previous years worked on the ambassadors of Trail float doing restorations.
“Then [this year] they went out of town, without even putting it to anyone in town. So that was a little disappointing. Personally, I think I could have given them a nicer float than what they had,” said McLeod.
The float was sourced by Tour Purchasing and Mechanical Superintendent, which Jolly said is, “well known in the movie industry for their movie props (life-size etc.).”
“The design is meant to be timeless in order to showcase the true essence, feel and foundation of our great city… The design is inviting, vibrant and exemplifies the pride we take in our area,” said Jolly.
“I think they could have got a lot more bang for their buck,” McLeod said.
