City of GF launches "water" webpage

One click and you’ll soon be awash with all the information you’ll need about water in Grand Forks.
A new webpage on the City of Grand Forks website will be a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on everything water-related in the community. Whether it’s information about the water meter program or water-saving tips for your household, you will be able to find it all on the new water conservation page.
“The average Grand Forks resident uses more than 720 litres per day of water. That’s more than 3,000 cups of water every day and about one-third more than the average British Columbian,” explains Mayor Brian Taylor. “We need to do a better job educating ourselves on water use and how we can better conserve this invaluable resource.”
The new webpage will be available starting Monday, May 5 and will include water conservation tips for inside and outside your home, your business and even what to do while enjoying the outdoors. There is even a section for teachers to download water-saving activities for their students.
Information on the City’s water meter program, including reports, timeline and Frequently Asked Questions will also be available.
“We felt it was a good time to launch the webpage given that May 4 to 10 is Drinking Water Week across BC,” adds Taylor.
As part of Drinking Water Week, the City is also hosting an open house to help you learn how to save water and use it more efficiently.
The webpage and open house are the first of many opportunities in the coming months for residents to learn helpful tips and practical solutions to reducing water use, and maintaining a healthy lawn and garden.
- Get started by making a commitment to save water by taking the Drinking Water Challenge at http://www.drinkingwaterweek.org/challenge
- Join us at the open house May 8 between noon and 3pm at Well #4/5, located in the southeast corner of Dick Bartlett Park, near the intersection of 19th St. and 70th Ave
- We encourage schools to join us at the open house. Bring classes for a field trip and learn more about water conservation, why we need to conserve this precious resource and where our water comes from.
