In one of my January columns I mentioned that we had eliminated overdue fines (for a one-year trial period) – in addition to that, we have erased everyone’s prior overdue fines from their accounts. We’re giving everyone a fresh start. If you haven’t been here in years – come back! We’ve missed you!

And now, let me tell you all about what’s happening at the library these days:

Poetry Cafe

April is National Poetry Month, and the Writer’s Guild invites you all to attend their Poetry Cafe at the library on Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 pm. Recite your own poetry, read something from one of your favourite poets, or just come and listen! Refreshments will be provided.

Bookclub

Please note that this month our Bookclub will meet in Grand Forks at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 1 (instead of Thursday, March 24). We will be meeting at Christina Lake on Wednesday, March 30 at 1:30 pm. It’s not too late to come get your copy of this month’s book: An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness, by Kay Redfield Jamison.

Mother Goose

It’s back! Starting Saturday, April 26 from 10:30 – 11:15 am, and running for 8 weeks. For children ages 0-3 and their parents or caregivers. Come join us for singing, rhyming, stories, and all-around fun!

Pokemon Club

Come to the library every other Friday at 3:30 pm to trade your pokemon cards with other kids.  Our next one will be on April 25. All ages welcome, but those under 7 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

NFB Film Night

Drop by the library on Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 pm for our NFB Film Club’s Oscar-winning Collection. There are a series of animated shorts, as well as the documentary Flamenco at 5:15 (total length of program is 80 minutes). Popcorn and tea will be served (yes, they go together wonderfully!)

Friends of the Library Booksale

The Spring Booksale will be held on Thursday, May 1 (10:00 am – 8:00 pm), Friday, May 2 (10:00 am – 5:00 pm), and Saturday, May 3 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm). All sales are by donation – don’t miss out on the great selection.

Library Closure

The library will be closed on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19. Happy Easter!
