Conservation asks for public help in finding elk poacher(s)

The Castlegar Conservation Officer Service is seeking information from the public regarding two mature bull elk that were found shot and left on Mt Sentinel, according to a press release issued by Conservation Officer Blair Thin.
He said the two bulls were seen alive on the morning of April 5 (Saturday) and were found dead on the following morning
“The area is used frequently by the public for various activities such as gathering firewood, etc and the COS is hoping that someone may have seen some suspicious activity in the area or observed some individuals with firearms that officers can follow up with,” he said.
“There is a good chance that the persons involved may have talked to/bragged to others about their actions and the COS is very interested in learning the identity of these individuals.”
He said the bull elk were shot, but then left, untouched.
“There is currently no open season for bull elk in the area,” he added. “(Please call) 1-877-953-7277 Report All Polluters and Poachers which is a 24-hour reporting line.
“Anonymous/confidential reports (are) welcome.”
